Alit-who?
I can't believe that Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination. That is such a tragedy, because she could have had it. If I was her, I would have gone for it. As was so prominently reported on last year during the appellate court appointments, the Republicans are all about up-or-down votes, and they, who are in control of the Senate, would have given her an up-or-down vote, because they are all about up-or-down votes, and because of party loyalty, the Republicans would have supported their head dude, Bush, and confirmed her. But she's withdrawn. Tragedy.
But now we have Alito, who supported the proposition that a woman must have her husband's permission to have an abortion. What if she's not married? Does she have to get married in order to have an abortion? And what about equal treatment for men? If he's going to support that insane notion, then he must also support the notion that a man cannot be allowed a prescription of Viagra or any similar drug without his wife's permission. And because men shouldn't have sex without marriage, only married men should be allowed such drugs. The fact that just recently in New York it was decided that the State of New York should discontinue paying for Viagra and other such drugs for known sex offenders and child molesters illustrates the double standard regarding reproductive health that this country, the Republicans particularly, promotes. It's perfectly all right for a rapist to take Viagra and go on a raping spree, but if the victims come up pregnant, that's just their bad luck - they get raped AND a devil spawn. That's they way they like it, those uber-moral Republicans. Keep the womenfolk in their place. With Alito, we'll be moving quickly toward the 13th century values they want, except that the women will also be required to work 8+ hour days in addition to serving the menfolk in the manner that they'd like to become accustomed to. They'll be taking the vote, property rights and inheritance rights away in due course. Oh, and just another thought, I've heard a lot from Phyllis Schafley recently. Who gave that bitch permission to speak?
