Do What?

Robert Novak, you may know him better as the "Douchebag of Liberty", wrote in his colum in today's Chicago Sun-Times:

http://www.suntimes.com/output/novak/cst-edt-noval13.html

"Pennsylvania state Treasurer Bob Casey, running for the Senate as a pro-life Democrat, is maintaining a golden silence on the nomination of Judge Sam Alito even within his own party circles.

A fellow Pennsylvania Democrat privately sought out Casey's views on Alito last week and was told the candidate had nothing to say. Sooner or later, however, Casey will have to take a stand on Alito, whose opinions on the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals have tended to be pro-life.

As a mainstream Democrat, Casey will be under pressure to take a critical view of Alito by liberal groups waging an all-out campaign and promising to do anything to stop him. ''You name it, we'll do it,'' said Nan Aron, president of the Alliance for Justice."

Do what? Bob Casey doesn't have to say a damn thing about Alito, unless his his confimation process takes so long that it carries over past the 2006 elections (unlikely). Casey has not been elected yet (although he will be, in less than a year), and so it's a non-issue. Alito will be either confirmed or denied before Casey even starts campaigning really hard, and Alito will not be an issue at all. It will already be a done deal. Doesn't Novak have anything better to do than to try to start controversy regarding a non-issue? Doesn't he have some CIA super-secret operatives to destroy the careers of by publishing their names? Why isn't Novak in jail for treason?
